Love Under The Crucifix – 4K Restoration

Description
*SOUTHEAST ASIAN PREMIERE*
Sumptuously pictured in colour and widescreen (similar to The Wandering Princess), for her sixth and final directorial work, TANAKA Kinuyo chose to depict 16th-century Japan, to tell a sweeping tale of doomed romance. Set in a time when Christians were being persecuted, Ogin, the daughter of a tea master, falls in love with a married, devout Christian Samurai.
In keeping with the spirit of solidarity and collaboration with fellow women in the industry, the film was produced by KURABU Ninjin (“The Carrot Club”), an independent production company founded by actresses KISHI Keiko, KUGA Yoshiko and ARIMA Ineko (Setsuko in OZU Yasujirō’s Equinox Flower and the protagonist of Love Under the Crucifix). The aim of the company was to provide better conditions for actors working within the constraints of the studio system.
